Aims of National Organisation for Psychotherapy of Greece

The National Organisation of Psychotherapy of Greece (NOPG), was founded in 1998, is a regular member of the European Society of Psychotherapy - European Association for Psychotherapy - EAP and is the only organization that represents, almost the entire psychotherapy industry in our country. That is: 30 psychotherapeutic organizations (Professional Societies and Associations of Psychotherapists as well as Training Centers) of 15 different approaches and a total of more than 2,500 active professional psychotherapists (Asimakis & EEDE, 2010, Asimakis, 2018).

The main objectives of NOPG are:

  1. - The unification of all Greek psychotherapy organizations, different approaches, based on the principles of the Strasbourg Declaration on Psychotherapy (1990) and the aims of the European Society for Psychotherapy (EAP).

    - The development of high standards and the legal regulation of the rules of education and practice of psychotherapy in Greece.

    - The improvement of the services provided in the field of mental health through the legal regulation of the profession of psychotherapist.

    - The representation of Greek psychotherapists in relevant Greek and international organizations or associations.

    - The representation in Greece of the European Association for Psychotherapy (European Association for Psychotherapy, EAP), of which he is a regular member.

    - The issuance of the European Certificate of Psychotherapy, (European Certificate for Psychotherapy, ECP) ​​to Greek psychotherapists who meet the necessary criteria for its acquisition, as defined by the EAP.

The main purpose of the European Society of Psychotherapy is to establish and control the application of common training criteria and ethical rules in the practice of psychotherapy. It is a federation, which lists 128 organizations from 41 European countries, ie more than 120,000 psychotherapists of different methods and directions.

EAP is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) recognized by the Council of Europe in the field of psychotherapy and has established strict criteria for the issuance of the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP), which are already applied in most member states of the European Union.
